Electronic Art Kiosk Adds Emotion and Stories to 9/11 Exhibit

CINCINNATI—Global Response & Personal Remembrance, a 9/11 exhibit currently appearing at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center (www.freedomcenter.org), conveys the poignant thoughts and wishes of children from around the world with help from Electronic Art (www.electronicart.com), a full-service computer kiosk company that specializes in custom kiosk software development and hardware.

The special exhibit tells the story of the tragedy and heroes of 9/11 and runs through the end of 2006. It showcases artwork left at firehouses and ground zero by children and visitors from around the world, and photographs by Tanya Hoggard, a flight attendant who collected much of the art during her time between flights before the art was to be discarded.

Electronic Art developed the kiosk software to capture visitor remembrances, emotions, stories and comments using their newly designed Easy Ship™ kiosk hardware and custom-designed software.  The tool provides a text editor, and saves the guests comments to a database for later printing by the museum staff.  The stories will be shared during the exhibit and archived for future 9/11 related exhibits.

The Easy Ship™ Kiosk is a computer kiosk enclosure that is modular, easy to break down into separate pieces, and ships via standard shipping methods. The kiosk stand has optional components, such as a USB 84-key keyboard / trackpad, printer arm, and signage front panel. The computer Electronic Art uses most often on this stand is the IBM Anyplace panel pc, however any VESA mount panel PC can be used. They have custom designed the Easy Ship™ kiosk with their rental customers in mind, who often need kiosks to be shipped to a tradeshow or event.  Many other computer kiosks must be palletized and freight shipped, which increases cost and makes handling more difficult. The Easy Ship™ kiosk can be boxed and sent via carriers such as UPS for far less money, and can be more easily handled since it is in multiple smaller boxes.
