CINCINNATI—Invisible: Slavery Today premiered at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center (www.freedomcenter.org) on Saturday, January 6th and runs through February 28th. This interactive exhibit sheds light on the very real issue of contemporary slavery, which affects upwards of 20 million people—many of them children—throughout the world today.
Custom kiosk software developer Electronic Art (www.electronicart.com) is providing the two specially-designed kiosks and custom software that enable guests to actively participate in the exhibit. Most importantly, through the kiosks, guests can interact wirelessly with third-party resources who are dealing with modern-day slavery issues. The kiosks feature wireless Internet connectivity and the latest in FLASH and database technology, and are branded and themed in line with the main exhibit. While exploring the exhibit, kiosk visitors can watch a video on contemporary slavery and then choose to visit third-party websites to learn more about the issue and get involved.
“In essence,” said Tim Burke, president of Electronic Art, “the kiosks enable visitors to interact with the exhibit and have a direct impact on eradicating contemporary slavery.”
The kiosks used in the Invisible: Slavery Today exhibit are Electronic Art’s Easy Ship™ Kiosk, which is a computer kiosk enclosure that is modular, easy to break down into separate pieces, and ships via standard shipping methods. The kiosk stand has optional components, such as a USB 84-key keyboard / trackpad, printer arm, and signage front panel. The computer Electronic Art uses most often on this stand is the IBM Anyplace panel pc, however any VESA mount panel PC can be used. They have custom designed the Easy Ship™ kiosk with their rental customers in mind, who often need kiosks to be shipped to a tradeshow or event. Many other computer kiosks must be palletized and freight shipped, which increases cost and makes handling more difficult. The Easy Ship™ kiosk can be boxed and sent via carriers, such as UPS, for far less money, and can be more easily handled since it is in multiple smaller boxes.
